This place is somewhere I have a strange relationship with. My father was a fireman in Hereford and Worcester fire brigade, and one day whilst on duty, he was involved in an accident and fell into a coma. While he was in hospital, my family was put up in the accommodation area of this fire station and I spent the days moping around, with everything feeling surreal and warped. It was obviously not a happy time, but I do remember the grandness of this building - and in particular, the smell which can only come with a live, working fire station and all the firemen who bought food, essential items, played snooker with us, watched TV with us and escorted my family through the dangerous underpass t night to the hospital not far away - they generally looked after us really well.
My father never fully recovered, but he is doing well. I'm glad this building got a new lease of life...
