IN PICTURES: The abandoned subway under Blackpool Promenade

Blackpool Promenade will partially close for ten weeks starting Monday while a long-abandoned subway running under the road is filled in.

Getting filled in from 11/01/2021 access holes easy to get into main grids, and two round man hole lids one on the prom side one on chapel street side of the road

access to these tunnels will be through manhole covers right i live in blackpool anyone up for a late night man hole popping around where we know these tunnels are located see if we get lucky at all

good example is here, the old toilet subway is due to be filled, they opened this and other covers to let air in while they ripped out the toilets and asbestos - looks like it leads under chapel street towards the toilet/subway

Love these photos thanks for the upload, once a year they go down and survey them, last April I think I last saw them go down I wanted to ask if anyone could get photos but I was running late - access is via ladder under the metal grids by Madame Tussaud’s

i went in them tonight, its not worth it, anything note worthy has been stripped over the last month, up until the end of last year it looked exactly as the day it closed, have been planning a return visit for ages but left it too late - insta @mikedoesexploring for shitty photos and videos of it.

im going to hit the south pier ones tomorrow too, also have a lead on the gpo in town but i wont hold my breathe.

Ah gutted I expected as much it being empty, I saw comments on Facebook that it used to lead to a substation? South pier ones have the metal plate part lifted so should be easy, photo shows them knocking down the old vent shaft

Are there toilets at manc square now, something to do with the recent upgrade? Or do you mean some old public toilets unrelated to manchester square PS, forgive me for appearing a bit dense, just genuinely confused on?!

The toilets that were just after Manchester Square on the promenade, as far as I know the entrances were back filled just like the central pier ones but the structures remain, again, as far as I've heard blackpool council still go down once a year to survey them.

I have been wrong and could be wrong again though so don't quote me, unless I turn up with photos of the place

@nikkisixx I posted that for the OP, as I am not currently in Blackpool, but north manchester. I since deleted it, as I have given up asking about the pumping station, even topside. It will be explored when it gets explored I suppose, so I hope this clarifies. Thank you.
