Visited with Geo and Cregg
Yes so this place is doing the rounds, or....should i say people are doing the rounds at it, but being Derby born and bred, and being as my mum once owned the railway cottage on Spondon station that looks directly at it i'd be a bloody fool not to go have a potter. Celanese has been closing since 2011.... well it was threatening o close since then, maybe even before. I had 2 or 3 friends working there, and job uncertainty wasn't really something pleasant for them to live with, however when the final death toll of the factory came in 2012, i can assure you they weren't so sad to walk out with payoffs, and both straight into new jobs.... fortunate really because if Bombardier had gone tits up (as was thought around the same time) the only person in derby in a job would have probably been me.... but i'm digressing
So not much good comes out of Derby.... Derby County almost always end up a disappointment, It is the most obese city in the country (probably due to there being 4 Greggs within 5 minutes walk of each other) and anyone remotely famous seems to want to claim they are from Derbyshire and distance themselves from the city itself, (Robert Lindsay even says he's from Ilkeston for god sakes, and no one wants to be from there).... and people like to break things.... So i was pleasantly suprised when pictures from here finally popped up to see how nice it actually looked... well i say suprise, but its obvious that the place is looked after, i pass it regularly on the train back from LES-STARRRRR and its always been lit up like a christmas tree no matter the time of day, we've also taken regular drives past it to look at the wind Turbeens, and theres always much traffic on and off site... (yes these are all excuses blah blah) ANYWAY suprised i was .... i mean people have said it in all the reports before, its a good site, its a big site, its industrial porn.... I wont go "OOOOOH its a bit like Pyestock" because i wouldn't have a clue, in fact scrap the word Pyestock entirely it might encourage someone to say "get me a slice of Pye" again and i definitely haven't missed hearing that .....
i enjoyed this place, i think i was as high as a kite the day when i left and on a comedown the day after (bit smelly round there) but it was a most excellent day... the trained eye might look at these photos and think that we missed a shit load of stuff, we didn't i just flapped about with my camera and didn't take half the pictures i wanted. We were there for 5 hours.... it was a very disorientating place at first and i think we did all the bits in a cock eyed order, (i also got memory card full and had left all my others on the dining room table like a right noob)....
a trip back is definately needed, i don't think it would be boring to have 2 or 3 visits and there is more to see etc etc (elude to lots of mass unseen epic ....fade out to building history ...end scene_
I was going to regurgitate the wiki history, but i've actually (very concisely) told you alot of other stuff that hasn't been said in the other reports and has of course filled your thirst for knowledge so here's my pictures:-
After all this we popped to me nan and grandin's for a cup of tea... my grandin knows everything about everywhere in Derby ever, and fed me Apple Strudel whislt telling us about the Power plant on the site... the strudel was good... YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IS GOOD???
