Report - Chantry House Wakefield West Yokshire October 2019

Chantry House.Wakefield has been empty since it shut in 2006 as former council tax and highways building.

In 2017
A planning application has been drawn up requesting permission to change the use of Chantry House from offices to one and two bedroom “residential units”.

The application has been submitted by The Freshwater Group, the development arm of Watermark Retirement Communities.

But nothing came of that so the council ended up buying it and plans to demolish it later this year along with the derelict Snooty Fox pub, to make way for 80 new city houses.
It is widely considered to be an eyesore by residents and businesses who say it gives a poor impression of one of the main routes into the city centre.Even more so as it is next to the new History building which stands where the old job center socail officers stood.

Its been on my list of things to do since the day it shut.I knew it wouldnt be the best of explores but i was more excited about the views off roof.

Seen as though there are blocks of flats behind which have a much better view its probably nothing new to some people but it was to me.

Its been tightly sealed everytime ive looked before but we was in for a strange but prity straight forward entry.

I have been wanting to do this one since the day it shut and with not living that far away i forget the number of times ive tried and failed. Doesnt help driving past all time i thought id missed my chance but glad i kept at it. What is it they say ? "everything comes to he who waits" ? in this case it did it was more for the views than anything else.

Indeed it does, I finally managed 2 I waited 16 yrs to do and finally got them this yr, feels good doesn't it, I was the same not living far away and driving past several days a week too .

No problem. I went the other day but couldn't find a way in at all, checked underneath and around the building. Not sure if they're boarded it up or something.

I went in here years ago . squatters were living in there and the doors were wide open underneath . After 10 minutes of mooching I left to go have a look round kirkgate station because of the amount of scag needles and human turds laying about every where, I mean every where. . Building was still pretty much intact inside then . Looks like it's been soft stripped for demolition from your report .

i never seen another human or a turd when i was there lol but yeah it will be coming down shortly i imagine
