Hello, visited here last week. This is my first report though my second exploration to date. My understanding (without doing an Alan Partridge Wiki 'riff') is that the site processed coke for the steel works down at Margam/Port Talbot. It has been closed about 14yrs approx. I was originally hoping to find some remains up at Penscynor Wildlife Park but didn't realise it was already developed. A mate (who didn't make this visit) suggested this place instead, so I went along with another mate. We three are looking to do a fair bit more, and will endeavour to post some photos.
The fun bit about Cwm Coke Works was trying to get in. I'd done a bit of an online recce with streetview and all that, and thought I'd found a dirt track into the place. Upon arriving, the area that was once overgrown had been cut back and new fencing erected. Fortunately on driving around we found another access point. As it turned out there's a palisade fence inside that needs to be overcome. Once we knew where to get in we committed and slipped over. To be fair, we were proper nervous due to the reputation the site has as a dangerous place, and we weren't sure if there was security on site any more (we didn't see any). We had about 2hrs in there and saw just a bit of the site. We didn't go inside as our intention was to find a way in for future visits and just to get a feel for the place. The photos below are probably pretty familiar to anyone who's read any of the reports on this site, but for me it was all new so I'll make no apologies for that. I'll update the report following further visits. I'll say this as well - we were bricking it half the time we were there: the noises the place makes is probably enough to give most people the willies I reckons. We thought we heard voices at one point as well. Very cautious we were. having seen images from up on top of the conveyor belts as such, I can only respect those with the balls to get that involved
The images were added to Flickr from Facebook so aren't great quality. I hope you enjoy them.
This one came out a bit funny. A little bit 90's X Files looking:
