This place did the rounds about three years ago and we were meant to go but we decided to head to another part of the country and had a dire day ha ha. It's one of them things you think I will go in a few weeks and we never did. Seeing Hughie D's report I thought I would go for a little solo look on the way to Scotland. Thanks for the little tips mate. I got there and soon found my way in to the site and dropped down to the first area. I took the awkward way what you all prob know to get to the good stuff. After I got up there into the room I tried the door only to find it well sealed up. Security must have clicked on to it. So it was back down again to maybe try another way. I could not find another way and was about to give up when I spotted a small space. Still not sure how I even squeezed in to that window, even now I am wondering. A contortionist would have been proud of me. It was quite a nice visit and nice to see them spinners. Just kicking myself for not being able to see the rest due to no time left.
Dawson fabrics were based at Greenside mill after the premises at Wakefield Road had been closed in 2000. The company had several high end customers including marks and Spencers, producing fleece linings for jackets and blankets. The company finally shut it's doors in 2006 with the loss of seventy jobs. Plans are still in place to develop the site with housing and apartments.
