I have known about this building for a long time and tried a few times with no joy. I noticed in the last few years that more windows were getting smashed, then all of a sudden a small fire occurred at the front of the building in a few rooms. Then they put a security van in the compound at the front. Then several months later a load of fencing appeared around the site with demo signs on, and the van gone. So I made it up there for a nosey and around the back in no time, they had installed several cameras on poles which I stood in front off by mistake. No one turned up despite me keep looking. I was expecting a trashed, graffitied up place. So was surprised when graffiti was quite minimal. And once inside it was much bigger than I thought and a lot of original features. The best bit was the main staircase, they had two of these and identical, but one was filled with crap. The place is virtually a pile of rubble now, it was not the most exciting place, but it’s undocumented. This is the fourth building I have done on this industrial estate by taking chances on them when the opportunity has arose. The first was the main stores seven years ago which was used as a car garage, and then the Norwich School Of Flying, followed by the station HQ three years ago. And quinto crane last year which I did not know was the motor transport sheds and yard. The dining hall was a place to eat and enjoy entertainment and relax for the lower ranks. The building is of a fairly standard design. RAF Upper Heyford has the same design with the round windows.
RAF Horsham St Faiths was a former bomber command airfield that began life in June 1940. From 1942 the Americans took over the base and it is as expanded with new concrete runways and taxiways. The site had five hangars plus the standard range of buildings seen in these airfields. Many still stand, some in use and a few derelict. I did try another one with no joy. The airfield continued use after the war in to the cold war by the RAF again. It finally closed in 1967 and has since been developed into Norwich International Airport.
