First report after a long time lurking!
A bit of history from another thread but everybody knows this one:
A mill has been stationed here for over 200 years with Robert Fletcher & Son commencing the business of cigarette paper manufacturing in 1921. At its height, it employed 1000 people to run seven paper machines.
By 1986 the company was making a loss and was purchased by the Melton Medes Conglomerate who turned the company around and started to make a profit once again. By 2001 the company was once again failing and the decision was made to close the other mill it owned, Stoneclough Mill. Some people were transferred to the Greenfield mill, but the company could not sustain the increasing losses and it was forced into receivership resulting in a sudden overnight closure of the mill in 2001.

I first found out about this place by seeing another post on here and i knew straight away i wanted to check it out myself. I read loads of different reports and found out as much as i could about the site and the security before i planned a visit, so with a rough idea of the layout but no idea how i was going to get in or if i'd even be able to i set off on my own one friday afternoon. Upon arrival at a nearby car park i parked up the car and walked toward the site, as i got nearer the excitement rose and i could feel my heart beating like mad, would i make it inside? would i get caught by security? I headed down a foot path around the back of the site and then made my way on. I was quite suprised with how well it was sealed up to say how long it has been abandoned but luckily i managed to find my way through as quickly and quietly as i could i half expected a shout of 'Oi!' just as i was on the verge of making it in! thankfully the shout never came and i was in on my first visit!
I had seen pictures of the inside before but seeing it in person was something else! everywhere i went there was bigger and better things i couldn't believe how much stuff is just left. I spent the next 3 or 4 hours working my way round this huge place and only left as my battery was almost dead and it was about 9:30 pm. Since that first visit i have been 2 more times to try and cover it all but had to find a different way in as the access i used had been very well sealed, pictures are from all 3 visits (May/July/August).
The site looms into view
Nature making a comeback
Big machinery
Obligatory Forklift shot
Various office shots
Various other shots
A sad day indeed
