Report - Guildhall - Nottingham - May 2024

The listed building was inaugurated as a courthouse in 1888.
It was used as a court for almost 110 years before it was used by the city administration for 14 years.

It has been unused since 2010 and the community is trying to sell it to an investor.

There is also a former fire station and a former police station on the same property. All 3 buildings have a common courtyard.
The police station and fire station were inaugurated in 1940 and are now also listed buildings. These buildings have also been empty since 2016. There were plans to demolish it and build student apartments there. However, this is no longer possible due to monument protection.

Unfortunately the cell block was locked and no access was possible.

There are said to have been several fires in the courthouse between May and October and security measures were massively increased.

Why do they let these buildings fall into such a state, its definitely deteriorated since my visit!

It's really looking quite sorry for itself nowadays.

Did you not venture into the basement areas? The small staircases in the middle of the courtrooms led straight down into all sorts of cells and store rooms and were the most interesting parts (at least to me).
