The Visit
A quick little evening explore this one with @Funlestet very close to all the new power stations which makes it feel quite sad and unwanted .. not much left here now and nature is taking it back very quickly!

The History
Preparations for a power station at Heyrod began in 1916 when 26 acres (110,000 m2) of land were purchased. The station was opened in 1926 by the Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Transport and Electricity Board. The cooling towers were constructed in the 1940s. Coal was delivered to the plant at Millbrook railway sidings on the Micklehurst Line, situated on the opposite side of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. The sidings were built in 1932 and had space to hold up to 130 12-ton wagons. Coal was fed into a hopper underneath the sidings before being transported on an enclosed conveyor belt which emerged high above the valley to cross the River Tame and canal before entering the station at a high level. The station was closed on 29 October 1979 with a generating capacity of 64 megawatts. It was demolished during the 1980s, although part of the site is still used as an electrical substation.

Yeah defiantly a good effort there mate, I should really get round to covering the remains of these old stations, I just struggle to find the motivation!

Some nice pics and well done for getting it done!

Was just a shame there wasnt that much there, only two smallish buildings.
You could see far away there looked like a coal mine or something but we didnt manage to get that far.

I wouldnt mind going back just to see if we can get to that side of it, if indeed its part of the station.

Also there was someone chopping something very close so have to be on our tip toes :)

I just happened to be there yesterday, nicely captured :thumb

A regular pop-in mooch for me, Graffiti if fairly recent, first for a fair bit in here tbh, but makes a change from people toppling the old electrical boxes.

I know this is very late, but that side wasn’t a coal mine. It was the shell of the goods shed and coal conveyor. There is lots there like an underground hopper and other tunnels, conveyor belts, the remains of an engine shed, bridge, power culvert etc. I think there is more there than in the station itself. Shame how the station nowadays is fenced off completely
