This place really needs no introduction history wise. I have been after getting inside for a long time now so to pull it off was great and made the insane cost of the ferry even more bareable. Security was active and the access a little tricky but i got there after some faffing. Getting in wasn't so bad but ironically getting out again was what was worrying me, I very nearly ended up shit creak without a paddle!!
The site is understandably a little sensitive so and i've 'heard stories' shall we say.. in the end it all came good but please excuse the slight lack of photos. I was slightly worried about where id parked up and dumped the car/girlfreind so rushed a little to get round. Apparently a man came to look at the car while i was gone but didn't spot her asleep in the back so all was ok in the end.. we live for another day!

As expected the site is dominated by high walls, fences topped with razorwire and large gates that section it off into compounds. I found the spattering of landscaping and trees on the site quite surreal really.
One end of the site is dominated by the last remaining H-block. There were originally 8 of these cell blocks and 7 have been demolished leaving the sprawling site actually much smaller than it would have been originally.. This was no normal prison! Inside each H was 4 wings containing cells and wash rooms. I only had time to check one wing but there was plenty to look at.
Next up was the hospital, again lots of cells but larger this time. There was also treatment rooms and an X Ray suite. At the end a single seclusion cell. Not padded but very similar in feel.
I checked the control centre next. Not really too much of interest other than a few odd noticeboards
Then the arrivals block where new inmates would be processed
Two more modern looking blocks near the main gate housed a visitors centre, vehicle search and also seemed to be where the prison officers would have entered and exited the site.
Last off one of many guard towers and few more exterior shots
There was also a chapel and a few other buildings but they were locked so with that i made my exit
