Report - In To The Void . Halifax . January 2024

First explore of the year found me up at Halifax on a cold January morning ,They have had a dusting of snow up here so got wrapped up accordingly . I was here to check out the Strines beck and a possible culverted section of it

Entrance was at the cross roads of Holdsworth road and Brow lane , A fair drop down and i knew if i got down then im pretty certain i would not be able to climb back out ! Had checked my exit was clear before jiust hoped there where no obstructions on the way !

Did well getting down to this ( for an old fat bloke ) once at the entrance there was a small culverted section upstream which was nothing a few other bits coming in looked interesting but it was time to start the main explore

quite spacious this first bit once under the arch it got tighter

like Pipemare !

tall section looked as though this must have once been open to the outside as it looks as though the windows have been bricked up , next bit had to crawl under

on to all fours going through this section thankfully only a short crawl

increased to a stoop here off shots ahead to the left and the right must have been feeds to the factorys above

had a quick look up here it went on a fair way stone slab ceiling must have been the factory floor but had a long way to go still so couldnt explore it 100%

left hand of shot , then back to the main drag

transition to stone arch from brick

like walking on a golden carpet lol

could hear gushing water ahead as the culvert turned almost ninety degrees

just before the mini waterfall there looked like some old steps set in to the wall

they diddnt lead anywhere , then looking back upstream

then back to red brick arch got a tad deep here

then smaller stone arch

small inlet

light up ahead

a very short open air bit at the side of a scrap yard then back underground

shiny red brick arch but rocky as hell underfoot

moving on downstream i existed through a very narrow opening in to the day light then another entrance l

looking back

getting even harder underfoot

last of stone arches back to brickwork

last pic little side tunnel big enough to crawl up

long section this of red brick culvert went on a time

daylight ahead captain ! lol

only outside for about 6 feet then back underground

looking back upstream in the last pic then view downstream

change again to red brick pity the floor was still rocky

change here to shuttered concrete . the tripod fell over and broke in this section , Also the camera went underwater so pictures not to cracky im afraid

the sound of gushing water ahead meant another mini waterfall ahead

looking back this took some getting past as the water was waist deep the sides were so slippery so couldnt get any purchase and ended up sliding in !

change once past the waterfall to RCP all styles this drain !

light ahead at last the end was in sight

last look back upstream

the outfall had to walk a little further downstream and use a tree to climb out of the culvert , a brilliant explore one of the very best at 1.2 km long overall it took some doing and the start point was a real challenge tuff one one my own but well worth it cheers for viewing

my first one this year , most of it is fine just a couple of stoopy bits went on a long way mind

thanks mate , no never got any smell of the brown stuff it's a culvert and I never saw any evidence of it being anything else other than an underground river , was tight in places but most of it was ok

While that looks like a hell of a slog, it does also look pretty awesome! Definitely rather neglected though eh! 😳

If you had to guess, where abouts would you say that tall section with the bricked up openings was, in relation to topside?

Cheers uncle T . That tall section was in the first 100m of the top entrance , Yeah there were bits that could have done with a clean out but most of it was red brick arch that went for a long way that you can walk through no problem couple of deep bits but a great explore on the whole

Yeah. Looks great. Definitely worth checking out next time I’m up north. ☺️
