Visited yesterday with my daughter and the dog (who we secured to a tree so he wouldn’t get hurt, she stayed outside too), what a lovely little building but in a rather sorry state thanks to vandals. Almost every window has been smashed, don’t think i’ve seen so much smashed glass before, I do like a broken window though as some make great photos. There’s pretty lame graffiti on the walls and whatever’s been left behind has been trashed.
Impossible to be quiet as the glass crunches underfoot but it’s in a fairly quiet location and once within the grounds you can’t be seen. Lots of toys left behind as well as CDs and books so enjoyed looking through them. Although the school was for kids up to 11 years old it reminded me very much of a nursery setting for pre-school children.
History (borrowed from here as nothing I could find online)-
The Montessori Method of Education is a child-centred educational approach based on the scientific observations of children, developed by the Italian physician Maria Montessori over a century ago. The system is in use in independent schools across the world in various forms, but all of the methods view the child as the one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It attempts to develop children physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively with mixed-age classrooms, greater student choice, specialised educational materials and specially trained Montessori teachers among other things.
Meadowbrook School near Ascot was run under the Montessori method at this location for almost three decades, admitting children between the ages of 18 months to 11 years old before they moved to a larger, better suited site in 2018. Prior to that there isn't much I can find out about the school, although it was almost certainly originally a small two or three roomed school house for the nearby villages before being expanded in the middle of the 20th Century.
