Explored with Raz & Jordan
Background
Middleton limestone mine is an extensive working running between Middleton-by-Wirksworth and Hopton Wood. Underground working started here in 1959, and ceased in about 2005, although the current owners (Omya) have not given up the lease so future working remains a possibility. The Limestone mined here was used for such things as commonwelth memorials and military gravestones.
The Explore;
I must admit, ive been humming and haring about this for quite some time. Mainly because i thought it was crazy and that we would die for sure. However after weeks of nagging and a failed attempt to find it, Raz convinced me.
So into Moria we went, and i can honestly say i have a much higher appreciation for underground sites now after seeing this place. In parts it is 50ft high and as far wide, truly breathtaking!
Thanks for looking
