Middleton limestone mine is an extensive working running between Middleton-by-Wirksworth and Hopton Wood. Underground working started here in 1959, and ceased in about 2005, although the current owners (Omya) have not given up the lease.
We decided it was time for another camp out, so me, Pom, leic_urbex_xp, an 4 non members packed a bit of gear and headed for the mine. We only went over night but to be honest i could of spent 3 or more days down there ( probably not the best idea for health though ha ). You see pictures of this place on reports and they look delicious, but its not till you get down there that you realise the true extent of it....the tunnels, the hight, the width, choice of direction, and of course the detail. Setting up an playing round with different shots was fun, and we had a good laugh down there...cant wait to get back and cover more.
Thanks. hope you enjoy
