Park Hotel one that I had checked many times for access, I always seemed to miss it when it had been open. Well this time we turned up and was inside within minutes which I put down to the metal thieves in the attic happily chopping away.
A massive red brick former Victorian hotel on a small hill over looking a park and the river. There's a bit of decay now in parts and some totally untouched. The hotel opened in1883 and jointly by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and London and North Western Railway. n the 1923 grouping of railway companies, ownership passed to the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. When the UK's railways were nationalised in 1948, it passed to the British Transport Commission's Hotels Executive, and thence to British Transport Hotels, who sold it in 1950. It was then used for council offices until it finally closed in 2011.
