Potted history:
Built in 1936 in the great airfield building exercise by the UK government; served during WW2 as a maintenance base preparing aircraft before operations. From 1966 to 1983, it was used as the home of the red arrows; in 1983 the US moved in and used the base as a maintenance airfield. After the cold war the USAF moved out and the base reverted to the MOD, who used it as an Army storage sight. Military flights ended in 1993. The site was sold in 2001 and has been used for a variety of activities since.
