Has anyone visited or found out anything about the site? From several searches it says closed or opened and I do not know which to believe, It's an interesting site and i've wanted to visit it hence the research into the site. However, I'm clueless as to if it is actually still active or if only sections are abandoned. Thanks for reading or answering!

I've been there multiple times in the last few years. There's a civilian aggregate depot on site, civvy staff on weekdays, various civvy and police storage and workshops and It's used for military training but not all the time. There can be periods of weeks when it's not in use on weekends. It can sometimes look empty but still have troops on site. If there's vehicles parked in the car park then it's generally in use, but it can look deserted at the front and still have people on site. I've had a few close calls. Most recently I could hear them far away from me and I finished my evening with a climb on a favourite roof when I saw torch lights a few buildings away from me. I've had a few near misses with vehicles being driven around but there's a lot of hiding places. They have sealed up a lot of the obvious holes in the fence recently, but there's still plenty of options.

There's been activity there for the last month or so and that's the longest time of continuous use I've observed.
Send a drone over and look for vehicles. If you don't hear any blanks being fired for a few hours then you can be more confident, but even then you'll never know for sure.

The site is supposed to become barracks for a Welsh regiment within the next few years.

It's a firm favourite of mine on account of the massive size of the place with all the roads and buildings, woodland, open spaces and the ever present threat that someone might be there. If you can find it when it's empty then it will give hours of interest. The glycerine hill at the north east end is interesting, plus the connected buildings that were cellulose steaming plants. There's several good view points on roofs. The concrete roofs obviously, not the sheet ones. Also beware of crappy old asbestos.
Also avoid parking in remote laybys because the locals and the police will take an interest if you establish a pattern.
And yes, when it's empty the farmer sometimes calls in to check on the cows and sheep. Sometimes via the back gate too.
