Slim Pickings
(visited with the usuals)
Having seen this come up on social media (and even Manchester Evening News FFS!!!) recently, I decided to finally get my pics up in a report after
letting these pics marinate on my PC for a while!
Slim Pickings is a brick-built stilling pond/CSO/surface water drain on one of the sewers of Manchester.
After finding our unappealing outfall, and making our way in, we were greeted with a 2 meter concrete overflow pipe.
The overflow/tank itself has been here since the sewer was built, however the old overflow tunnel (originally brick) was no longer fit for use, and replaced
with concrete sometime in the 60s-70s.
Until we meet with a side pipe which takes us to a dropshaft, this servers a small surface water drain.
Bit of climbing.
Towards the top was this side pipe joining in with the fun, I am guessing another surface water drain.
Then it was back down to take some fancy shots
After this, the pipe was dry, we knew the chamber was getting closer.
Until finally we could see it in the distance.
And in we went.
The size and depth of this place was absolutely awesome.
Over the weir wall and the main attraction awaits...
Truly a masterpiece of engineering. The craftsmanship and effort that went into this place is phenomenal.
As we took turns taking shots, many Mancunian turds went by down the slide of poop.
Further upstream there is a little chamber, however I did not venture up as it was slippy as f00k.
Down the slope, the sewer disappears underneath the chamber.
After abit of looking we found where it came out.
The air in here was horrible, so we made quick effort to get a pic and go.

From here, GTFO to Wetherspoons to argue over rogue pieces of cheese and over who's round was next.
