Never thought I'd get a chance to get in here, but decided to take a look and acess was unbelievablely easy considering.
There was alarms going off, but I'm not the type to run away, had an hour in there and no one came.
Was quite a nice causal stroll around the college, most of the rooms were stripped, but was still some things to see. Having electric still running saved getting the torch out.
Old artwork from the students, old movie posters, showed the building still had some charcter.
I go past the new College on my way to work and I think it looks horrendous compared to this one.
I get they wanted a more modern building and to be in the center of town, but still I prefer the look of this one.
History on the place
The Northern School of Art is the only specialist art and design college in the north-east of England and one of only three in the country in the further education sector. The college currently has three campuses, one in Middlesbrough, one in Church Square, Hartlepool and a second Hartlepool Campus located on Church Street.
In May 1960, the old campus was opened by Robin Darwin, then-Principal of the Royal College of Art, and was later extended as Middlesbrough School of Art.
The school counts celebrated artist Mackenzie Thorpe among its alumni.
The campus closed its doors in June 2021 and re-located to the centre of Middlesbrough in September 2021.
The site and land is up for sale for £900.000 for 'development opportunities'.
I heard rumors they wanted to build houses on the land , so it's only a matter of time...
Thanks for looking.
