The Works is one of the most well known of all the Manc drains and for good reason, it has everything from big brick pipes to steps and the penstock.

The Works drain is a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) that flows into the river Irk, this means there are sections of stagnant poo water to play about in and during summer it can smell a bit ripe.

Nice pics Paul. It's not actually a CSO though, it's the Moston Brook storm overflow.

Despite it's appearances sometimes the brook isn't a sewer, there are several large CSOs that spill into it which can account for most of the filth!

I actually nicked that bit from someone else's report, I've been up a few of the sewers further up

Ah fair enough. Think it's the J interceptor that runs close to much of the Moston Brook, it used to be brick but kept on continuously overflowing so it was relined with concrete in the 1970s, boo!
