During a week of winter mountaineering in the highlands one day was particularly misty so we headed out to Lochailort for a bit of exploring, and as derps go this one's pretty special!
Inverailort was originally built as a hunting lodge in 1875 by the Clan Cameron and extended over the years to become the house it is today. During WW2 the house was requisitioned by the army and the building, along with its land became a training camp for Britain's first commando unit. In 1942 the house was passed to the navy as an officer training camp.
After the war the house reverted back to the Cameron family and despite its remote location seems to have had a huge number of visitors over the years.
The house was used as a post office for a short time but since 2010 has been abandoned.
There's so much cool stuff laying around, you could spend a week in this place going through it all..
And a bonus shot of the Victorian weather station on Ben Nevis's summit
