I had the opportunity to get around the new JLR engine plant last month. Alas it is not at its best stage yet as only a fraction of the production line had been installed then.
The site itself covers 250,000 square feet spread across two massive halls, one for manufacturing parts and one for assembling the engines themselves. Once the plant is fully operational it is supposed to turn out one engine every 36 seconds
A seemingly rather functional piece of modern architecture
The beginings of a manufacturing line
Rows of milling machines being installed
plenty of these robot arms around for moving engine blocks i assume
Production line with crane
Engine parts on the track for commissioning the production line
A few small tanks that hold lubricant/coolant for the milling machines
Finally a crap shot of the roof that links the machine hall to the assembly hall. No shots of inside the assembly hall as it was just a vast empty room
