By a weird twist of fate.. to within 1 hour exactly 1 year since the 2022 trip, I set off with "M" again up Snowdon.

This time, the carts had brakes on both the front and back wheels (unlike just back brakes on previous attempt)

Unfortunately, the grease they spread on the tracks again got into the brakes which didn't work effectively as needed and the steeper upper sections were again a desperate battle for survival (serious, no melodramatic exaggeration) .

Given up on Snowdon as a "luge" track, the braking is too problematic, unless you can use the rack somehow? But we'd just got back from a different venue (to be a future report) that was abso-F-lutely brilliant and very very fast cart track

As an update to this old thread, here's a clip from the lower section of the Snowdon railway (2023 trip), at sunset after all trains had gone to depot. Not super fast as brake problems mentioned. Enjoy...

maybe I should post the link to last year's video again as we have no plans to go back to Snowdon due to the greased rails, and after all there is a much-much better alternative somewhere else

So here's the 2022 video rather than the 2023 clip above. As you can see in both videos we were plagued with braking problems on Snowdon that meant we couldn't control the speed and had to go slow :( Still good fun, but nowhere near the terrifying brilliance of 50kph elsewhere
