Wow! What a stunning house that is, absolutely loving the history surrounding it.
Top class report that, excellent pictures too, particularly like the one with the match strikers and the mummified dog on the table? Glad this didn't get trashed.
Cheers for posting!

I'm old enough to remember Trevor Howard, and the film Brief Encounter (Re-run, not the original year!). A truly great actor, he was big in the 50's and 60's but kind of faded out in the 70's into smaller roles. This house is mint, its as if they just went away for the weekend, I hope you either hid the cash, or donated it to a charity, in saying that, I got the wife a million pound note for Christmas some years ago from a country where it converted to about £1.00. One of the best, and un-trashed, reports I have seen on here. Great job. If the stuff is binned..... loss of history.

Yeah it does look like they just walked out but I left out the pics showing gaping holes in walls & collapsed ceiling onto bed (thats what I love about photography you can make the viewer see what you want them to)
The money was put back exactly where it was, but I did check some of the notes when I got home & most of them were not legal tender anymore & as u say not worth much.
Again tells a story though, this was obviously their loose change from their travels!

Wow, amazing find! Adds a whole character to a place seeing it in context with all its belongings still there.

Out of interest do you wear gloves for poking about? Doubt there's any need but the thought's just crossed my mind

Ah yeah I've come across a few incidents of people taping needles to the backs of locks and gates etc. - definitely a good shout wearing gloves!

Don’t think it was that exciting tbh but will have a look when I can. I think I posted that page cos it’s my birthday 1st Aug but fortunately not that year

Actor Trevor Howard is best known for his role in Brief Encounters & while I wont pretend he was a name I was particularly familiar with he has appeared in an unbelievable 90+ films.
Trevor & actress Halen Cherry were Wed in 1944 & brought this place in 1950.
They were according to the sales blurb "known for their flamboyant parties" which may explain the rack of whips & tickling sticks we found in the corner of the room!
Trevor died in 1988 & Helen (who appeared in nearly 30 films herself died in 2001.

The house Im pretty sure was passed on to a relative or friend as the couple had no children & strangely 18yrs after her death it still contained many personal effects of Helen's
I believe the last owner was called Tim. He was clearly a avid classic car owner as there are numerous artifacts relating to "Allard" cars, pictures & Tax disks & rally motifs included.
He appeared to be an artist & we found amusing if slightly racist hand drawn cartoons.
Also between them they were well travelled people, there was some unusual antiquities in here which I found fascinating. I also found what to me is one of the most incredible things Iv found on an explore & thats not even the large wedge of foreign notes that fell out of one of the old books Im talking about (which would of been a youtubers clickbait dream)

The Explore

This one left me with a bit of a problem, mainly the 90 pics I ended up with after editing so difficult to know where to start.
At first glance you would think someone could move in tomorrow, but on closer inspection there was gaps through the walls large enough to fit a hand in & unfortunately demolition is the houses only future if it has not already met this fate!
The other reason I have a lot of pics is I ended up doing 2 visits here in close succession as it was going in on my first fateful visit that I managed to leak coke through my 1300D rendering it fit for the scrap heap. My first visit then was all phone pics, but I quickly returned with my lads camera a few days later so apologies none of the pics are the best!
I know a few of you made it here but this place was fortunate enough to miss the tourbus!
Anyway this is pic heavy but is just a small portion of what was there. Plenty more on my Flickr
